Mayor and City Council
Form of Government: The City of Stockport utilizes a Mayor/Council system of government. The Mayor is a non-partisan position elected for a 2-year term. The five City Council members are also non-partisan positions elected from the community at large with a 4-year term.
The Mayor and City Council members are the duly elected representatives of the citizens of Stockport and act as the political head of the city. They are responsible for setting policy, approving the budget, determining the tax rate, and formulating broad long-term policies that outline the City's public function.

CITY OF STOCKPORT – NOTICE OF INTENT TO FILL COUNCIL VACANCY BY APPOINTMENT
The City Council of Stockport, Iowa, hereby gives notice of its intent to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Council Member Terry Dorothy, effective November 17, 2025.
The City Council plans to fill this vacancy by appointment at the City Council meeting to be held on:

Location: Stockport City Hall
Eligible electors of the City of Stockport have the right to file a petition requesting that the vacancy be filled by special election pursuant to Iowa Code §372.13(2). A petition must be filed with the City Clerk within 14 days after publication of this notice or within 14 days after the appointment, whichever is later.
